How Do You Remove Oil Stains from Asphalt

There are a few different ways that you can remove oil stains from asphalt. The most common way to do so is by using an asphalt cleaner or primer, which is what we use at Bay Area Asphalt Maintenance before we do sealcoating and striping in Trinity FL. You can also try using sand or dish soap.

Asphalt cleaner – Most asphalt cleaners are “degreasers” or oil solvents that can be used to break down oil and clean it up. This can be used on asphalt or concrete to get rid of oil stains. Additionally, the primer applied before sealcoating is done, also helps remove oil stains from asphalt. If you are receiving sealcoating and striping in Trinity FL, this service will be done for you.

Sand – If the oil is still wet and not absorbed into the asphalt, you can use sand to help clean up the spill. Simply pour some sand on the area of the spill. After a few minutes, the sand will have absorbed most of the oil off of the asphalt. If the oil had some time to seep into the asphalt, you may still need to use an asphalt cleaner to get rid of what is left after you use sand.

Dish soap – To remove an oil stain from asphalt using dish soap, pour a generous amount onto the area. Then, use a large scrub brush to scrub the stain. You may need to complete the process a few times to get as much oil out of the asphalt as possible.

Parking lot sealcoating is the process in which a tar-like substance is applied on top of asphalt to protect it from damage caused by weather and traffic. It also makes asphalt look black again, which could be helpful if you are dealing with large oil stains.
